Having eczema or psoriasis means being careful about which products you use. As a skincare editor with sensitive skin, I’m always searching for gentle cleansers. Two great options are Dove Deep Moisture Body Wash and Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Body Wash. Both can benefit dry, irritated skin.

Ingredients

Dove relies on mild cleansers plus nourishing shea butter and natural oils to hydrate skin. Aveeno contains soothing colloidal oatmeal to calm inflammation and moisturize while gently cleansing.

Skin Soothing Ability

In my experience, both products are gentler than typical soaps and wash off cleanly without dryness or tightness. However, Aveeno’s colloidal oatmeal formula is extra soothing and protective for reactive, eczema-prone skin.

Hydration Benefits

The rich, creamy lather of Dove leaves a moisturized feel post-shower. Aveeno also provides hydration thanks to the occlusive benefits of oatmeal. Those with very dry or cracked skin may find Aveeno more nourishing.

Dove's creamy lather rinses cleanly and the botanicals nourish. But the fragrance could be problematic for some. Aveeno is extra gentle but has a thinner texture that may not feel as luxe.

Fragrance

Dove has added fragrance that some sensitive skin types may react to. Aveeno uses minimal, gentle ingredients and is fragrance-free, ideal for easily irritated skin.

Suitable Skin Types

Dove Deep Moisture Wash works for dry, sensitive skin needing gentle cleansing with added hydration. Those with conditions like eczema benefit more from Aveeno’s fragrance-free, colloidal oatmeal formula.

Price

At around $4-$7 USD each for a standard bottle, Dove and Aveeno are competitively priced with most drugstore body washes. Aveeno is occasionally a bit pricier but not significantly.

The Bottom Line

Those with mildly dry, sensitive skin can likely use either product without issues. But for eczema, psoriasis and easily irritated skin, I would recommend fragrance-free, colloidal oatmeal-based Aveeno for the gentlest cleansing routine. However, test patching before fully switching body washes is advised!
