For years now, La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5 has been my "go-to" scar cream for just about everything from minor cuts and scrapes to damaged or dehydrated skin.

With thousands of reviews, Cicaplast Balm B5 is no stranger to skincare aficionados and features an excellent mix of hydrating and repairing ingredients:

  • Glycerin: a popular humectant that attracts water from the dermis into the epidermis for healthy & hydrated skin (Skin Therapy Letter, 2005)
  • Shea Butter: sustained sourced from Burkina Faso, shea butter has been used for centuries to moisturize, repair, and soothe sensitive skin. Studies show that it has powerful anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving properties (Verma, 2012)
  • Vitamin B5 (Panthenol): this common humectant is found in creams, lotions, and scar gels like Mederma, and helps reduce transepidermal water loss or TEWL (Camargo, 2011)
  • Madecassoside: not to be confused with Madagascar, ma-de-cass-o-side is one of the active compounds in centella asiatica (tiger grass) that improves wound healing while reducing redness and inflammation (Liu, 2008 and Sasmita, 2018)
  • La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water: rich in minerals like calcium, magnesium, and selenium, thermal spring water may provide anti-inflammatory and skin recovery benefits, but research is still limited (Seite, 2013)
  • 1% Dimethicone: last but not least, dimethicone is a silicone-based polymer used in this formula as a skin protectant to reduce water loss. La Roche-Posay notes that it helps nourish and protect chapped, cracked, and chafed skin (La Roche-Posay)

Cicaplast Balm B5 has a rich creamy texture (primarily due to shea butter) so make sure to apply it last after any water-based serum. It does leave a thin white residue everytime that drives me crazy but you can pat dry with a damp towel to remove any excess.

One customer even said, "I'm pretty sure it's crafted wth angel tears and unicorn magic." 😂

Finally, Cicaplast Balm B5 is just amazing value for money!

Our Verdict: Meet your new all-in-1 miracle worker a.k.a. La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Balm B5, the multi-purpose scar cream that's perfect for just about everything! I personally use it daily to fight dry skin, reduce the appearance of redness and inflammation, and help my skin recover faster & better after a chemical peel or laser treatment.
