TruSkin Naturals Review
TruSkin Naturals offers an affordable vitamin C serum with 72% organic ingredients including Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Hyaluronic Acid, Vitamin E, and Witch Hazel.
What Is TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Serum?
With over 10K reviews on Amazon, the TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Serum has become the equivalent of a viral cat video in the skincare business.
Much of its success has been attributed to scores of satisfied customers who have posted positive reviews and amazing before/after photos.
And unlike cult favorite SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic, this vitamin c serum will only cost you $20. Yup, you read that right!
TruSkin Naturals, like many of its rivals, touts the “natural” ingredients and “plant-based formulation” of its products. This is mainly for marketing purposes and in my opinion, doesn’t affect the quality of a product.
I think Drunk Elephant explains this quite well in their skincare philosophy: it’s not about natural vs. synthetic, but using safe and effective ingredients that work well with your skin.
TruSkin Naturals vitamin C serum is lightweight and dries within a minute or two. Since it’s quite strong, I recommend starting off slowly especially if you’ve never used a vitamin C product before.
This product comes in a UV-protected bottle with a clear dropper.

Benefits of Vitamin C
So what’s the big deal with vitamin C, anyway?
I’m glad you asked.
Vitamin C is clinically proven to brighten your skin by inhibiting melanin synthesis. This helps reverse pigmentation disorders such as melasma, age spots, and acne marks.
Melanin is an important pigment that determines our skin color and protects us from the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
Vitamin C also promotes collagen formation. It influences gene expression (i.e. DNA) and provides essential inputs for collagen production. This helps improve the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines as well as atrophic (pitted) acne scars.
Finally, vitamin C protects our skin from the sun’s UV rays. It has antioxidant properties that prevent UV-induced free radical damage. UV rays are known causes of sunburn, dark spots, and skin cancer.
1. Sodium Ascorbyl Phosphate (Vitamin C Derivative)
Sodium ascorbyl phosphate (SAP) is a salt derivative of L-ascorbic acid (pure vitamin C).
But why would you use a vitamin C derivative? Isn’t pure vitamin C better?
Well, it’s complicated.
While L-ascorbic acid is more potent (our body prefers vitamin C in this form), it comes with a number of issues.
For one thing, it oxidizes (spoils) rather quickly which means a short shelf life.
For another, L-ascorbic acid can irritate skin as it requires a fairly acidic pH (below 4) to properly penetrate our skin barrier.
Vitamin C derivatives, like sodium ascorbyl phosphate, address some of these issues.
SAP is more stable and does not oxidize as quickly as pure vitamin C. Once it is absorbed by the skin, SAP is converted into L-ascorbic acid by enzymes in the body. From there, it provides the same benefits as pure vitamin C.
SAP is effective at a pH of 6-7 which means less skin irritation compared to L-ascorbic acid. For reference, our skin’s normal pH is around 5.5.
And as a bonus, if you have active acne, research shows that SAP can limit sebum oxidation by up to 40% (one of the key factors behind acne).
2. Hyaluronic Acid
Hyaluronic acid is an abundant and naturally occurring substance in our skin. It serves many functions in your body including wound healing, skin regeneration, and hydration.
This ingredient is often added to combat the drying effects of vitamin C serums and helps prevent skin dehydration and irritation.
3. Witch Hazel
Witch hazel is a powerful astringent with anti-inflammatory and anti-irritant properties. It also helps fight acne and soothe skin redness.
I always keep a bottle of witch hazel around for the days when I get breakouts or skin irritation.
4. Vitamin E
Vitamin E is an antioxidant that protects skin from pollution and environmental stressors.
It works synergistically with Vitamin C to protect the body from free radical damage and premature signs of aging.
TruSkin Naturals Vitamin C Serum Reviews
“Helped reduce skin redness from breakouts…”
“I bought this product about a month ago and I use it at least once a day, sometimes twice. I started noticing a difference in my skin within a week! For the record, I have terrible skin. It’s red, blotchy, uneven, and on top of that I would get terrible breakouts. I chose to post some before and after pictures because even though my skin is still not perfect this product has helped A LOT! It helped reduce the redness of my breakouts within a few days of using it and I’m convinced that it has also helped prevent more breakouts. This past month I’ve only had about 2 bad pimples (which is great for me since I used to get a new pimple every couple of days) but other than that my face has been doing great!”
“My skin looks flawless and glows…”
“My search for an amazing serum is finally over. I just purchased my 3rd bottle and I am hooked! My skin looks flawless and I have been getting so many compliments about how great I look. My skin glows as if I just walked out of a spa treatment. A little goes along way, the bottle usually last me about 3 1/2 months. I use it every morning and every night. Thank you for this amazing product!”
“Great affordable alternative to SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic…”
“I had been Skinceuticals customer in the past, but wanted something a little more budget friendly and found the reviews on TruSkin products and thought I’d give them a try (especially since I could buy the entire product line for the cost of a single Skinceuticals product!) I purchased the Vitamin C serum, the HA serum, eye cream, face wash and the Vitamin C moisturizer and began using them on 8/8. I was hoping to reduce the constant redness and get rid of the little bumps and fine lines popping up on this 40 year old face. These pics are dated 8/12 and 8/18. I have no products on in either picture. The redness has gone down a lot and SOMEHOW I didn’t even notice that I had bags under my eyes, but that has gone down quite a bit as well. The texture of my skin is much nicer. I’m very skeptical of reviews that claim to have dramatic overnight effects. I don’t look radically different after a week, but I can definitely see progress! If this is a weeks’ worth of progress I think I will be pretty happy in a month or two.”
