Silagen Review

Scars are one of the top concerns of most patients after a medical or cosmetic surgery.

Fortunately, you can avoid post-op scars almost entirely with a consistent scar care routine.

Your scar care routine should always include a high quality silicone gel like Silagen.

That’s because silicone gels have been the gold standard for scar treatment since the 1980s.

In fact, the International Advisory Panel on Scar Management recommends them for both hypertrophic scars and keloids. (1)

What Is Silagen?

Silagen Logo

Silagen is a premium quality silicone gel that is designed to minimize post-op surgery scars.

It creates a protective “second skin” that keeps your scar hydrated and normalizes excess collagen formation to help you achieve the most aesthetic post-op recovery results. (2)

Silagen also relieves common wound symptoms such as itchiness, discomfort, redness, and pain.

It’s produced by NewMedical Technology, Inc., the same manufacturer behind NewGel+ (an effective and affordable silicone gel that I use myself and would highly recommend).

Finally, Silagen is distributed exclusively through authorized physician offices such as your local dermatologist or plastic surgeon.

If you choose to buy Silagen online, please note that this will void the manufacturer’s warranty.

Unfortunately, Silagen is relatively expensive and also difficult to buy if you don’t regularly visit a doctor who stocks this product.

Luckily, there are many affordable alternatives that I would wholeheartedly recommend such as NewGel+ and BioCorneum Plus SPF 30.

How Does Silagen Work?

How Silagen Works

Silagen accelerates the wound healing process by creating an ideal environment for skin cell regeneration after surgery.

Essentially, it forms a “second skin” that keeps your scar hydrated and protected while still permitting vital oxygen transfer. (3)

In doing so, Silagen prevents trans-epidermal water loss (TEWL) and excess collagen formation which are known factors in the development of abnormal scars like keloids. (4)

In terms of application frequency, you should apply Silagen twice a day for at least 2 months for new scars and 3 months for old scars.

Woman Applying Scar Cream

“Over priced…”

“This works great, but I did not pay this price. I got it from my Dr. Office for 49 bucks. Just saying. It truly does work.”

Misty

“The product is amazing!!!”

“The product is amazing!!! I haven’t used it long enough to achieve full results, but I have noticed a difference in my scarred areas with having used sample packs for a week. I’m so glad I now have a full sized bottle. When applied, it has a light silky feel to it. Moisturizer and makeup applies beautifully over it.”

Pam R

“This product is way too expensive here…”

“This product is way too expensive here, I purchased from my dr. 15 mg for $49.00 it does work, however but this price is outrageous!!!!”

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Silagen used for?

Silagen is used to prevent post-op surgery scars. It minimizes abnormal scar formation to help you achieve the most aesthetic recovery results.

How long should you use Silagen?

The recommended treatment period is 2-3 months, however, it may take longer depending on the size and age of your scar.

Does Silagen work on old scars?

Yes, Silagen works on old scars. In my experience, I’ve had excellent results using silicone gels on old hypertrophic scars.

If you do not see any progress after 3 months, ask your doctor about stronger options such as corticosteroid injections and cryotherapy.

My Verdict on Silagen

I hope you enjoyed my Silagen review.

I recommend adding a high quality silicone gel like Silagen to your post-op routine to achieve the most aesthetic recovery outcome.

It’s a premium silicone gel that works well but is only available at authorized physician offices.

If you want a more affordable silicone gel made by the same company, check out NewGel+.

If you need a silicone gel with sunscreen (for exposed scars on your face, neck, or hands), check out BioCorneum Plus SPF 30.
