ScarFade Review

Do you have scars that still bother you?

Whether it’s a recent surgery, car accident, sports injury, cosmetic procedure, kitchen burn, or old acne scars, there are effective treatments to get rid of your scars for good.

For hypertrophic scars and keloids, I prefer a high quality silicone gel like Scarfade.

Silicone gels have been successfully used for scar reduction therapy since the late 1980s and are recommended by the International Advisory Panel on Scar Management. (1)

What Is Scarfade?

Scarfade Logo

Scarfade is a high quality silicone gel that can help improve your scar appearance and relieve common wound symptoms like itchiness and discomfort.

Made in the USA by Hanson Medical Inc., Scarfade is not as well-known as popular brands like ScarAway, Kelo-Cote, and BioCorneum.

However, Scarfade is an excellent silicone gel that works extremely well on old and new scars (just have a look at the outstanding reviews).

Most of all, Scarfade offers incredible value for your money (the 60g version is ~$1.17 per gram).

For comparison, Kelo-Cote is around $0.90 per gram while BioCorneum is about $1.33 per gram. At current prices, I’d actually recommend buying the 60g version of Kelo-Cote instead as it’s a good silicone gel for a few bucks less.

Prices do change frequently but the 60g version of Scarfade is almost always a great bargain that should last you at least 4-6 months even if you’re using it on multiple scars.

Next, let’s take a look at how Scarfade compares to other silicone gels on the market.

How Does Scarfade Work?

Man Applying Silicone Gel

Scarfade helps reduce the size and intensity of your scars by downregulating collagen production. (2)

Abnormal scars, such as linear hypertrophic scars and keloids, are characterized by irregular and excessive levels of collagen fibers. This results in hard and lumpy “knots” of scar tissue.

When applied on your scars, silicone gels like Scarfade form a protective and semi-permeable layer that prevents trans-epidermal water loss while permitting vital oxygen transfer. (3)

In other words, Scarfade helps keep your scar hydrated, which in turn reduces excess collagen production and minimizes scar formation.

Researchers are still unsure of the exact mechanism, but it’s been theorized that a favorable shift in growth factors (TGF, FGF) is responsible for collagen downregulation. (4)

Scarfade Reviews

Woman Applying Scar Cream

“Consistency is key. Apply every day religiously for five months.”

“Phenomenal! I had split open my forehead from the top to my nose when tripping and hitting the corner of a mirror. I used ScarFade ointment everyday and the silicone sheets every night for five months straight, and the healing process is better than I could have ever expected. I believe it is the best over the counter product besides getting plastic surgery.”

Trista L.

“NOT IMPRESSED…”

“I don’t know how long it takes to get results but I have been using this gel for well over a month, and have seen none. I suspect this is a weak form of silicone. Going to try some silicone sheets instead. The scar is from a gash on my knuckle from a can lid in the trash. It happened in late Sept. 2015. Maybe with a fresher scar there would be better results.”

Emilie D.

“Definitely recommend…”

“I have very long, hypertrophic scars from a transplant surgery. Medical research (posted on the Internet) states that silicone has an approximate 80% efficacy rate. The highest of all other scar removal strategies. The medical research also said that silicone gel is as effective as silicone strips. I’ve been using three different types of silicone gel, and I can’t tell which one is best. ScarFade is, without question, the best value for the money.
My scars were particularly bad. They were like thick, purple rope and painful when I moved. I’ve been using silicone gel for 5 months. It has worked extremely well. They are flatter, thinner, and, in some areas, almost the same color as my skin. I am so thankful these products are available.”

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Scarfade work on old scars?

Yes, Scarfade is effective on old scars. In my experience, I’ve had excellent results using silicone gels on old acne scars and chest keloids.

If you do not see any progress after 3 months, speak to your dermatologist about stronger options such as corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, and 5-FU injections.

How do I apply Scarfade?

First, gently rinse your scar with warm water and pat dry with a towel.

Then, use your fingers to apply a thin layer of Scarfade onto your scar. Try to make sure that most of the gel is directly on top of the scar and avoid spreading it onto surrounding skin.

Once the gel is dry (~5 minutes), you can wear clothes and apply sunscreen or makeup over it.

How long should I use Scarfade?

You should use Scarfade for at least 3-4 months and continue using it until you no longer see any further scar improvements.

It’s important to apply Scarfade twice a day to ensure continuous 24-hour scar coverage.

My Verdict on Scarfade

I hope you enjoyed my Scarfade review.

I recommend Scarfade for most types of scars, including injury, surgery, burns, and acne.

It’s a high quality silicone gel that can help improve your scar appearance and relieve common wound symptoms, all while offering incredible value for your money.

But don’t forget the importance of patience and consistency! It may take months or even years of regular use before you can truly fade away your scars for good.
