Kelo-Cote Reviews

Scars serve as a constant reminder of your past. But they don’t have to be part of your future.

Whether your scars are from a car accident, sports injury, cosmetic surgery, kitchen burn, bug bite, or teenage acne, there are effective treatments to get rid of them for good!

For most types of scars, I recommend using a high quality silicone gel like Kelo-Cote.

That’s because silicone gels have been the gold standard for scar treatment since the 1980s.

In fact, an international panel of dermatologists, plastic surgeons, and scar experts agreed that silicone gels should be used as first-line therapy for both hypertrophic scars and keloids. (1)

The brand was acquired by Alliance Pharma Plc (a UK-based pharmaceutical company) in 2015 from Sinclair IS Pharma as part of a broad portfolio of healthcare products. (2)

Kelo-Cote features a silicone technology known as Advanced Silliclear Complex. This blend of cross-linking silicones bonds tightly with your skin for 24-hour scar coverage and protection.

Once applied, Kelo-Cote forms a thin, flexible, and breathable gel layer that helps soften and flatten the underlying scar tissue to restore normal and healthy-looking skin.

The Kelo-Cote family consists of multiple product sizes and formats, including:

Finally, Kelo-Cote is consistently one of the most affordable silicone gels at ~$1.33 per g.

How Does Kelo-Cote Work?

Man Applying Silicone Gel

Kelo-Cote helps accelerate the wound healing process by creating an optimal environment for skin cell regeneration and collagen formation.

This minimizes the chance of abnormal scars like keloids following an injury, surgery, or burn.

When applied on scars, Kelo-Cote forms a protective “second skin” that prevents infections while permitting vital oxygen transfer. (3)

At the same time, Kelo-Cote reduces trans-epidermal water loss and irregular collagen formation which is a precursor to the development of hypertrophic scars. (4)

In terms of application frequency, it’s advised to apply Kelo-Cote twice a day for at least 2 months for new scars and 3 months for old scars.

Kelo-Cote Reviews

Woman Applying Scar Cream

“I loved the product…”

“I loved the product. It does take a while for it to work. It may not seem like the product is working at first, but you need to be patient. I used the product on a keloid that was 5 years old and used the gel for 2-3 months. The keloid is completely gone without a scar. I haven’t tried the product on other scars, but for keloids it works great. Like I said it does take a while for it to work, but I haven’t found a product that works this great so I am happy to wait for it to work.”

Cynthia

“Favorite silicone scar product so far…”

“I have tried many silicone scar sheets and gels, but this one is by far the best in terms of low mess, quick drying, and staying power. It only takes a little bit of product and it forms a thin, clear, odorless film over your scar that is not easily removed (for continued protection/treatment!) I have used competing products where the film rubs off almost instantly, so the product isn’t able to be effective, or where the product will not dry or stains my clothes. Like most scar products, I’m sure this will need time to work, but I’m very excited to have found a product that I won’t dread applying every day!”

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take for Kelo-Cote to work?

While the recommended treatment period is 60-90 days, it ultimately depends on the size and age of your scar. I’ve had some scars that took years of treatment to flatten.

Consistency and patience are your best tools for long-term scar reduction results.

How do you use Kelo-Cote?

First, gently rinse your scar area with warm water and then pat dry with a towel.

Carefully use your fingers to apply a thin layer of Kelo-Cote onto your scar.

Make sure not to rub the gel into your skin.

Rather, place the gel over your scar and let it dry for a few minutes to form a protective layer for scar treatment.

Once the gel is dry (~5 minutes), you can wear clothes and apply sunscreen or makeup over it.

Does Kelo-Cote work on old scars?

Yes, Kelo-Cote works on old scars. But the company does say that it works best on new and immature scars less than 2 years old. (5)

In my experience, however, I’ve had excellent results using silicone gels on old scars.

If you do not see any progress after 3 months, speak to your dermatologist about stronger options such as corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, and 5-FU injections.

My Verdict on Kelo-Cote

I hope you enjoyed my Kelo-Cote review.

I recommend Kelo-Cote for most types of scars, including injury, surgery, burns, and acne.

It’s a high quality silicone gel that softens and flattens your scars while relieving common symptoms like itchiness and discomfort.

But don’t forget the importance of patience and consistency! It may take months or even years of regular use before you can truly fade away your scars for good.
