With dry winter air sucking moisture from our skin, having an ultra-hydrating body lotion is a must. As a skincare editor, two of my favorites are Gold Bond Healing Hydrating Lotion and Aveeno Daily Moisturizing Lotion. Both provide serious relief for dehydrated skin, but they have some key differences.

Ingredients

The main moisturizing ingredients in Gold Bond are aloe vera, hydrating glycerin, and nourishing oils like soybean, coconut, and avocado. Aveeno relies on skin-soothing colloidal oatmeal plus ceramides to repair the skin barrier. While both use soothing botanicals, Aveeno focuses more on gentle, natural ingredients.

Effectiveness

After testing these myself, Gold Bond and Aveeno both effectively combat dryness and leave skin looking healthy. However, Aveeno’s rich oat extracts give it an extra calming effect. The aloe in Gold Bond also soothes, but Aveeno’s oatmeal formula edges it out for hydration plus skin protection.

Texture

Gold Bond has a light, fast-absorbing lotion texture that isn’t greasy. Aveeno has a thicker, creamier consistency that feels more moisturizing going on. While Gold Bond sinks in quickly, Aveeno provides more of that ultra-hydrated feel by nourishing the skin’s surface layers.

Skin Type Suitability

With its aloe and glycerin, Gold Bond works well for mild to moderately dry skin that just needs a moisture boost. Aveeno’s soothing oat formulas make it ideal for sensitive, irritated skin prone to dryness and flaking. Those with more serious dryness need Aveeno’s richer formulations.

Customer Reviews

Both lotions earn glowing reviews, with 4+ star ratings on sites like Amazon. Fans call Gold Bond’s formula soothing and non-greasy. Aveeno earns consistent praise for calming irritation and delivering long-lasting hydration. Negative reviews are very minimal for both.

Price

These two are close in price, normally ranging from $6 to $12 USD. Aveeno is sometimes a little pricier, likely due to its natural colloidal oatmeal. But prices fluctuate, so deals can be found on both brands regularly. Overall, they’re pretty on par value-wise.

The Bottom Line

While Gold Bond and Aveeno take slightly different approaches, they both provide much-needed relief from dry, flaky skin. Those with mild dryness may be happy with either brand. But for sensitive, irritation-prone skin, I suggest Aveeno’s richer oat-based formulas. However, it’s worth trying both lotions yourself to see which one nourishes your skin the best this winter. Just be diligent about applying it daily for touchably soft skin all season long!
