Sun protection is one of the most important aspects of any skincare routine. As a skincare editor, I'm always testing various sunscreens to find the best options for daily use. Two popular broad spectrum sunscreens I've evaluated are EltaMD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum SPF 46 and La Roche-Posay Anthelios Ultra Light Fluid Facial Sunscreen SPF 60.

Elta MD vs La Roche-Posay

Both offer high UVA/UVB protection and feel lightweight on the skin. The EltaMD uses niacinamide and hyaluronic acid to soothe and hydrate, while the La Roche-Posay contains thermal spring water to calm the skin. In terms of texture, the EltaMD has a thicker, cream-like consistency that works well for normal to dry skin. It leaves a slight shine that some may prefer over a matte finish. The La Roche-Posay has a thinner, fluid texture that absorbs quickly without residue, making it a good choice for oilier skin or hot weather.

User reviews praise both sunscreens for their effectiveness. As a skincare editor, I've found both provide reliable protection from the sun, though the La Roche-Posay's higher SPF of 60 offers more coverage. Dermatologists note the EltaMD is ideal for sensitive skin due to its lack of common irritants. Meanwhile, the La Roche-Posay is appreciated by acne-prone users due its non-comedogenic formula.

In terms of value, the EltaMD is more affordable at $35 for 3 oz. However, the La Roche-Posay's 1.7 oz tube often comes with additional samples or gifts and is worth the slightly higher $39.99 price tag. Overall, the EltaMD gets my recommendation for normal to dry skin on a budget, while the La Roche-Posay is unmatched for oily or acne-prone skin types looking for maximum protection. Both are excellent daily sunscreen options.
