BioCorneum Reviews

An effective scar prevention routine can significantly enhance the final aesthetic outcome of any cosmetic procedure, including breast augmentations, rhinoplasty, and tummy tucks.

Your post-op routine should always include a high quality silicone gel like BioCorneum.

That’s because BioCorneum helps soften existing scars, minimize abnormal scar growth, and relieve common post-surgery symptoms.

In fact, the International Advisory Panel on Scar Management recommends silicone as first-line therapy for hypertrophic scars and keloids. (1)

What Is BioCorneum?

BioCorneum

BioCorneum is a premium silicone gel that is clinically proven to improve scar appearance. (2)

Designed by Sientra, BioCorneum includes innovative Silishield™ technology and SPF 30.

Essentially, it forms an invisible shield over your scars to create an optimal wound healing environment for the best recovery results.

This “second skin” keeps your scar hydrated and reduces excess collagen formation to flatten existing hypertrophic scars and keloids. (3)

BioCorneum also includes SPF 30 to protect sensitive scars on your face, neck, hands, and décolleté area from future sun damage.

Transparent, odorless, lightweight, and silky smooth on your skin, BioCorneum is easy to apply and dries within minutes.

It’s often recommended by plastic surgeons for fading surgery scars from tummy tucks, rhinoplasty, and breast augmentations.

How Does BioCorneum Work?

Man Applying Silicone Gel

BioCorneum works in two main ways:

When applied on wounds, it forms a protective “second skin” that helps retain blood plasma which is rich in natural growth factors and crucial to the wound healing process. (3)

When applied on scars, it prevents water loss and reduces excess collagen formation which are known contributors to keloid development (hard and lumpy raised scars). (4)

Silishield™ Technology

Silishield™ crosslinking silicone technology allows BioCorneum to bond more effectively onto your skin than traditional silicone gels. (5)

That means this product can stay on your skin much longer and is less likely to wash off. This is important because silicone gels work best with continuous 24-hour scar coverage. (4)

SPF 30 Sunscreen

BioCorneum also includes SPF 30 sunblock to protect sensitive scars on your face, neck, hands, and décolleté area from further discoloration.

Since scar tissue contains less melanin, it’s critical to apply adequate sunscreen to prevent sunburns and hyperpigmentation.

BioCorneum Reviews

Woman Applying Scar Cream

“We love BioCorneum and believe it has really helped…”

“Just over a year ago, my son sliced his precious 1.5yr old perfect face and needed 5 stitches in his forehead. They were done in the ER and NOT by a PS. I was horrified when I saw it start to heal. It kept getting wider, redder, and I immediately tried to heal it with Mederma massages and silicone sheeting. Massage, massage, sunscreen, sunscreen. I did everything I read was right. A plastic surgeon recommended BioCorneum and I was ready to buy it in his office. He said it’s expensive and I’m better off buying it on Amazon. So far, we’ve been using it for about 9-10 months and the BEST thing about this stuff is the SUNSCREEN IN IT!!! He no longer needs a thick white line on his face to go outside. I use this every morning and every night (and anytime I leave the house). We don’t use much at a time and I’m back here on Amazon to buy our first replacement bottle. It has lasted that long!!! This stuff (and time, of course), has made his scar blend in SO much better, it’s definitely there still, but it’s soft and just a tad lighter than his natural skin. Scars unfortunately are permanent. Nothing will make them go away completely. But we love BioCorneum and believe it has really helped. I will continue to use it on him for another year.”

“BioCorneum is the best and the 50g size lasts about 2 months…”

“I recently had a nose job and breast surgery and this has been the best for my scars and have improved with time. I have used other but the most rapid changes have come from BioCorneum. We keep trying other things to try and avoid spending the extra money on BioCorneum, but this is definitely the best. My doctor recommends it. BioCorneum is the best and the 50g size lasts about 2 months depending on how conservative you are with the scars. Also, the 50g is the best deal.”

Betty J. M.

“Love that this product has SPF…”

“I had surgery and there was a 3-4” incision along my neck. I love that this product has SPF as I am a runner and tried to keep the scar from sunlight-especially for the first few months. As you can see – the scar is barely visible now! It is a little bit “sticky” when you apply it, but that doesn’t really bother me.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How Quickly Does BioCorneum Work?

You should start seeing initial results from BioCorneum within 2 months for new scars and 3 months for old scars.

It’s important to apply BioCorneum twice a day to ensure continuous 24-hour scar coverage.

When Should I Start Using BioCorneum?

You can start using BioCorneum on existing scars immediately and on post-op scars after stitches or staples have been removed.

How Do You Use BioCorneum?

First, gently rinse your scar with warm water and pat dry with a towel.

Then, use your fingers to apply a thin layer of BioCorneum onto your scars. Try to make sure that most of the gel is directly on top of the scar and avoid spreading it onto surrounding skin.

Once the gel is dry (~5 minutes), you can wear clothes or apply makeup over it. Wait at least 15 minutes before any sun exposure.

Does BioCorneum Work On Old Scars?

Yes, BioCorneum is effective on old scars. In my experience, I’ve had excellent results using silicone products for old hypertrophic scars.

If you do not see any progress after 3 months, speak to your dermatologist about stronger options such as corticosteroid injections, cryotherapy, and 5-FU injections.

What Are The Ingredients In BioCorneum?

The inactive ingredients in BioCorneum include:

  • Isopropyl Myristate
  • Polysiloxanes (Silicone)
  • Silicone Dioxide

The active ingredients (sunscreen) include:

  • Octinoxate 7.5%
  • Octisalate 5.0%
  • Octocrylene 10%
  • Oxybenzone 6.0%

My Verdict on BioCorneum

I hope you enjoyed my BioCorneum review.

I recommend BioCorneum for most types of scars, including injury, surgery, burns, and acne.

It’s a premium silicone gel with Silishield™ technology for long-lasting scar coverage and SPF 30 to prevent hyperpigmentation.

But don’t forget the importance of patience! It often takes months of regular use before you see the best results for your scars.
